1st Prize: du Maurier Fowey Literary Festival Short Story Competition 2025 ‘Making Waves’

Whilst most short story competitions have an ‘open ‘ theme, this one featured the theme of ‘Making Waves’. Given that I was writing a short story that was to be associated with a Cornish literary festival, I decided to set my story at a beach cafe, and I selected a time frame that reflected the tail end of the holiday season. I had great fun with my 20-something, somewhat anarchic, narrator, and her obsession with her hair. It was such a joy to win 1st Prize for the competition!
